De-addiction and Home Orientation Camp

Sambhav Foundation had conducted the De-addiction and Home Orientation camp in the month Feb. – March 2006 with collaboration of Sathi, Raichur.

 

During the camp, the child is provided with an environment that incorporates a structured daily routine which encourages the development of healthy habits, and cultivates a reflective / contemplative approach toward life. The outcome of such a camp is that the child overcomes his dread of returning home and also starts to perceive home as a better place compared to the platform.

The logistics, planning and structure of the camp had been elaborated keeping in focus the various factors that have to be considered when conducting such camps. A description of the various activities and the behavioral changes targeted also attempted, trying to bear the process of change that occurs and the various behavioral manifestations observed in the children over the period of the camp.

 

 

The Activities like meditation, Yoga, story telling, NFE and different sessions makes the child to evaluate himself and come out of the addiction and thus he gets motivated to go back to his home or to live stable life.

Camp Duration: 1st February 2006 to 5th March 2006 (One Month)

Number of Children involved in the camp:                       23

 

Age group: 9 years to 16 years              Sex: This camp was for boys only.

 

Places the children originally from: Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil

Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Nepal.

 

Number of children has adverse habit:                            17 (74%)

 

Family Background of the Children

Number of children has both parents:                             15 (66%)

 

Number of children has single parents:                           4 (17%)

 

Numbers of children are orphan:                                    4 (17%)

 

 

Outcome of the camp

Number of children de-addicted:                                    17 (100%) 

 

Number of children will be reunited with the family:                 19 (83%)

 

Number of children will be Institutionalized (Orphan Children): 4 (17%)

Reunion Function

All the parents had been contacted through he telegram, phone or personally by staff.  Few children were handed over to their parents who came in the Reunion Function on 5th March 2005; rest of the children repatriated by the staff.
